The "Parti Sosilais Malaysia" (PSM, Socialist Party of Malaysia) was founded
on 30 April 1998 but the Malaysian state refused to register it, citing it as "a
threat to national security". The PSM took the ruling party and the Home
Minister to court for abusing their power, but the High Court rejected its
application in early 2003. The party has now appealed to the Appeals Court. The
PSM contested in the general elections in 1999 and 2004 but could not win a
seat.

The flag of the PSM, as shown on the party image gallery,
is a square red flag with the white fist from the party emblem (but without the
horizontal base shown on the emblem) and the white letters "PSM" (which do not
appear on the emblem).
